Summary of Process
Inspiration
Games such as Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank’s level “Pokitaru” inspired us to do a tropical theme and Zelda: Twilight Princess inspired us to go with a stylized approach. For the gameplay we found inspiration in previous mentioned games as well as the feline game called Stray, where you play as a cat. The playable character, Koh-Ah, and his ability to shapeshift was inspired by the druid class in World of Warcraft.
Process and journey
The group began the project with detailing what their area of expertise were and what they would like to do in the project. Seeing as this game project would have a large impact on the portfolios, the importance of including everyone was a large focus. After a few days of brainstorming, where every group member presented ideas for the game, the decision landed on a third person adventure game. The group was divided amongst the specializations (Art, Design, Programming) and discussed production. Daily stand-ups were had and kept the project up to date in accordance with the time plan.
Intended Audience
Our intended audience are everyone above 10 years of age(E10+) who enjoys an adventure game with combat and puzzle.
Take aways from game project
Our communication benefited the project. Playtesting is a must. Divide the responsibility more evenly between everyone. Have more ready builds daily. Avoid working on things last minute. More comments in the code so everyone can work with it (In case of absence or bugs). Update the game design document to keep unnecessary discussions at a minimum
